West Wirral Regeneration

Back in the news again, courtesy of  Phil Davies, the idea to regenerate West Kirby.

Read full article here http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/9134813.Sailing_into_stormy_waters/

By now the Council should have enough feedback from local residents, councillors and the many agencies they paid to investigate what was working and what was required in the towns.

I feel sorry for Howard Mortimer as it appears way back 8 or so years he was the key to holding the belief of regeneration for West Kirby and Hoylake in a proper forward moving Town Planning built environment way. He was enthusiastic, visionary and really believed in the vision for the 2 towns.

Unfortunately the ideas delivered by others didn’t show same respect.

Lets hope things now happen in a constructive, professional and appropriate manner.

Road Closure M53 Wallasey

M53
Junction 1 Wallasey (bridge repairs) – various lane closures in both directions at Bidston Moss Viaduct for bridge repairs. Work continues until the end of March 2012.
During the current phase of works, which will start on 15 July and last around four weeks, there will be a full closure of the northbound M53 link onto the A5139 Docks Link Road and a full closure of the northbound carriageway of the A5139 Docks Link Road to the Poulton Bridge Road roundabout.
Motorists have to be especially careful to exit the M53 at junction one unless they intend to travel into the Kingsway tunnel.

Hippys On The Hill

Headliners announced for Youthfest: Wirral’s first ever ‘teenagers only’ festival

Posted 24 June 2011 – 5:45pm

Youthfest HandsOrganisers have announced that Wirral bands Hippys On The Hill and We Were Beautiful will headline Youthfest 2011, Wirral’s first ever ‘teenagers only’ music festival this summer.

There is still time to audition to appear at the event, which will feature the best young guitar bands in Wirral on Saturday August 20 at Vale Park, New Brighton.

Registration forms and further details about the auditions are available from www.teenwirrral.com. Closing date for applications is Monday June 27. Auditions will be held on Sunday July 3, at Wirral Youth Theatre, Birkenhead. Judges will include representatives of Wirral Youth Service, Wirral Youth Theatre, and local media including Wirral News and the Wirral Globe.

The event is also being supported by 7Waves Community Radio, who will also be on the panel of judges. Said Pauline Murphy, 7Waves’ Station Manager: ‘We are grateful to the two headline bands for supporting the event, and are looking forward to the auditions. We know there are a lot of talented young people out there and would urge any other bands out there to visitwww.teenwirral.com and have a go.’

The festival is being organised by Wirral Youth Service to publicise the positive achievements of Wirral’s young people, and raise the profile of new innovations in the Youth Service, including the Teen Wirral website and the borough’s Youth Hubs and youth centres. The event will showcase the best guitar bands the area has to offer and is aiming to give local young people a great day out.

Ticket details will be announced soon but will deliberately be priced at a very competitive £3 to enable as many young people as possible to attend.

Admission to the festival area itself will be limited to 13-19 year olds. The ticketed area will be staffed by Youth Service staff. Adults and families who wish to stay can use the park and surrounding area to watch the afternoon’s events.

Anyone with further queries about the auditions can ring Wirral Council’s Youth Service Office on 0151 637 6370.

Festival of Firsts Hoylake

Could this be West Wirral’s own Hay Festival?

A spectacular art event taking place in Hoylake 8-10 July.

Essentially, three days of music, art, poetry and theatre over the weekend 8th-10th July (to be repeated, in Oxton, on the 15th-17th July). Already, an army of volunteers is working to make this the biggest cultural event the Wirral peninsula has seen.

FIRSTS will include premiere performances of plays, poems and musical works featuring hundreds of prominent local acts from every genre in venues throughout Hoylake, plus some record-breaking attempts. Help us, for example, to achieve the record for the most people reciting ‘To Be Or Not To Be’ in one place!

Wirral Funding for Groups

Your Wirral funding window now open

The time is here again when Wirral-based community and voluntary sector groups can apply for a grant from the Your Wirral fund.

The latest funding window opened yesterday and closes on Thursday 17th June. Your Wirral can provide funding of up to £2,500 to local groups to help them pay for one-off pieces of equipment, activities or events.

The Your Wirral fund is jointly administered by Wirral Council and Wirral Partnership Homes and has benefited 126 different groups and handed out nearly £250,000 in the last year alone.

Among the groups who benefited from the last round of funding in February was the Gilroy Road Community Allotment Society, who received a grant to help them set up a new community garden and allotments. Greasby Outdoor Activity and Leisure also received assistance to help with the restoration of the Coronation Park Pavilion, while the Get Hooked on Fishing group obtained funding for their ‘Access to Angling for Disabled People’ project.

Applying is easy. If you would like more information or help with completing an application, please call 0151 691 8349 or email: info@yourwirral.org.uk. More information is available at the Your Wirral website – www.YourWirral.org.u
